Retired psychiatrist Ken Bragan grew up in a coalmining town in the north of England and obtained a medical degree at Edinburgh University. After army service and work in general practice he emigrated with his wife and children to New Zealand, where he acquired a specialist qualification in psychiatry.
An abiding interest in the part writing can play in recovery from mental illness was triggered by a study of the life and work of Janet Frame. Since retirement Ken has written a number of books on subjects connected with psychiatry, literature and religion.
